ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria-based Sports Authority, which operates the former Bellator and Ultimate Fighting Championship promotions, is set to open its new headquarters in the U.S. on June 30.
The company is planning to open the building on the corner of 14th and Vine in the heart of downtown Alexandria, VA, which will have its own outdoor sports arena and retail store.
It will be the first American Sports Authority building to open.
SAAA plans to spend $400 million in renovations and expansions to the space, which includes adding a restaurant, a new movie theater, a fitness center, and a public restrooms.
Sports Authority president and CEO Andy Sauer said the company is working closely with the U-Va.
athletic department and the Charlottesville-based Virginia Commonwealth University, which owns the venue.
“This is an exciting time for us, and I am proud to say we have found our partner in the City of Charlottesville and the City College of Virginia, who have supported our expansion,” Sauer told ESPN Criid in a statement.
“We have built a great foundation and I can’t wait to see how we bring this great arena to life.”
The building will be home to the sports arena, which the company plans to use as a “sports center” for the UVA Athletics Department.
Alexands arena, the former home of Bellator, has been the site of many sports events in the city.
Its former home is still owned by the Virginia Commonwealth university, which is one of the sports associations in the country that sponsors the UVC.
The site also is the home of a number of sports-related events, including the University of Virginia’s men’s basketball team, the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team, and the Virginia Beach Men’s Tennis team.
The arena is also home to multiple sports teams.
The new Sports Authority has been in business since 2012 and is located in downtown Alexandria and has its own office and stores.
Sauer said he is confident the venue will attract “big names,” like the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and NFL teams, as well as “some great local brands.”
Sauer also said that the team will be a major draw for tourists, which he said will be “very important” to the overall economic development of the area.
