Hong Kong-based company makes ‘factory’ of food packaging for US supermarkets

The Hong Kong food packaging company Huiyang, which is owned by the same Chinese conglomerate that owns the United States’ largest supermarket chain, will start making the packaging for the United Kingdom’s food supply chain next year.

The company said on Thursday that it had secured a contract to start making food packaging from the US company, but did not give a specific date for the first batch.

Huiyong, which has been working with the US firm since 2014, is also the first food packaging firm in the world to be licensed to manufacture food products for the US market.

The move comes amid a rise in imports of packaged foods from China, with the country increasingly relying on imports to meet its food needs.

China has been using the US food supply chains to make food in the last decade and is also seeking to export its food products.

It aims to create an export market for food products in Asia that would also allow it to become a major supplier of raw materials to US companies.

Huishan, a company in the manufacturing sector, is one of the largest in the US.

It has been producing food products since 1996 and is one the world’s largest food packaging companies.

US food packaging manufacturer Kraft and Chinese food packaging supplier DuPont have also signed an agreement to jointly develop a new line of food products under the Kraft Heinz brand.

“Huiyang has been the leading global food packaging producer for over 30 years and its products have been exported to over 30 countries including the United Nations, European Union and China, as well as more than 100 other countries,” the company said in a statement.

“The first batch of food items to be made in Huiyan’s factory will be available to retailers worldwide, with a price tag of approximately US$4.8 billion.

The packaging and manufacturing process is the first step towards commercialization, the company added.

Huyang will also use its existing manufacturing facility in Hong Kong to develop its own food packaging products.

The firm said it was working with DuPont to produce a range of packaging products, which would also be exported to Europe and other markets. 

The move comes amidst a rise of imports of processed foods from the United Sates to China.

Last year, the US imported more than 11 million tonnes of food and beverage products, a rise from 6 million tonnes in 2014.

China also imported more processed food products than any other country last year, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

China, which imports over two million tonnes a year, is set to overtake the United states in food imports by 2019, according the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation.

China will have to spend US$1.7 trillion on food and agricultural products over the next five years to meet the countrys food needs, the agency said.

The US is one or two days away from a record-breaking US record for food imports last year.

 The US has increased its import of processed food in recent years.

Last month, the Food Marketing Board of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a report estimating that the US imports more than 4.3 million tonnes (4.4 million tonnes) of food per day. 

Last year, Chinese food producers in the United Stated produced an estimated 10 million tonnes.

As the food industry in China grows and China continues to expand its international markets, we will need more options to make products more efficient and cost effective,” DuPont vice president of Global Product Development in China Cheng Zeng said in the statement.
